To those of you saying you don’t pay attention to politics while innocent people are being dragged out of their homes in the middle of the night and children are zip-tied and forced to lie naked in the street, it’s time to pay attention. The day will come when you have to face the horrors that you chose to ignore and your choice to turn your back to it will not be easy to live with. Nobody wants to look at this, nobody wants to face it, but pretending it’s not happening because it makes us feel bad is not an option. You are either standing up for the persecuted or you are aiding the persecutors. My father was a WWII veteran, and he told me when the soldiers went into the towns where the death camps were, the residents told them they had no idea what was happening behind those walls. The soldiers didn’t believe them and made them dig the graves for the dead, so they could see the inhumanity they chose to ignore. We all need to choose who we are at this moment in time. Are we going to be the people who stand up for the living, or the ones forced to dig their graves after their deaths?-
